What is lifelong learning? Lifelong learning is the idea that it is never too soon nor too late for learning. It is a continuum of the learning process that takes place at all levels and in all formats – formal, non-formal and informal. Lifelong learning is the idea that learning can and does occur beyond the formal structure of an educational institution and occurs throughout one’s lifetime. Lifelong learning is attitudinal–learners believe that one can and should be open to new ideas, decisions, skills, and behaviours. Lifelong learning sees that all citizens are provided with learning opportunities at all ages and in numerous contexts: at work, at home, and through leisure activities, not just through formal channels.
