Last updated: Friday 5 June 2020

We are pleased that the Victorian Government has announced that community facilities can begin to reopen in June. At Melton City Council, we will take a staged approach to this, ensuring that our practices and facilities are safe for staff and customers as each facility’s doors open again. We will do so following government advice and guidelines.

In line with current advice from the State Government, five of Council’s Community Centres will reopen with a number of restrictions in place from Tuesday 9 June 2020. These centres are:

  • Stevenson House
  • Kurunjang Community Hub
  • Timbertop Children’s & Community Centre
  • Botanica Springs Children’s & Community Centre
  • Bridge Road Children’s and Community Centre

These centres will open weekdays, 10am – 4pm.

Restrictions on programming and groups who have access to the centres will be in place. Community Activation & Learning Officers based at those centres will be in contact with external hirers to discuss reactivation of bookings, programs and activities.

Facilities are required to record the names and contact number of visitors who stay at the community facility for more than 15 minutes, and a number of hygiene and safety measures will also be put in place.

Access to these services may change at short notice, in accordance with government advice.

Only some essential early childhood services will be operating from centres, including long day care (but not occasional care) and kindergarten. Maternal and Child Health services have resumed face-to-face services for 0-8 week old children, although where possible, families will be offered phone or video consultations. Immunisation sessions will also continue to operate and have now returned to their regular venues.

For more information on early childhood services, visit Council’s website.

All other centres will remain closed for now. This includes our seniors’ centres, community halls, sports pavilions/community rooms, Melton Indoor Recreation Centre and Caroline Springs Leisure Centre.

Whilst Council’s community facilities are closed, the Melton City Council Learning Directory team are providing free online workshops via our YouTube channel. Online programs will continue until end of Term 2.
