Being part of a group is an important part of human nature. Social connections and increased communication help boost positive mood. Indeed, being part of a knitting group can give a sense of belonging, and gives you something else, besides your completed knitted items, of which to be proud.

Knitting enforces mindfulness meditation by calming, relaxing, and keeping us centered because of its repetitive rhythmic movements, which can help prevent and manage stress, pain and depression, which in turn strengthens the body’s immune system. If you have arthritis, knitting can actually improve dexterity in your hands and fingers. The Arthritis Foundation suggests approaching knitting like it’s a sport, warming up your hands before you get started. Stick with it and you’ll see more long-term benefits and less pain when it comes to arthritis.

Perhaps most exciting is research that suggests that crafts like knitting and crocheting may help to stave off a decline in brain function with age. … The researchers speculate that craft activities promote the development of neural pathways in the brain that help to maintain cognitive health.

So whatever your reason for coming along to our knit and chat group, you are sure to meet some new friends, have fun and stay motivated.

BYO materials. This group takes place on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month.
