Women’s Walking & Social Group

A good walk can do wonders for your physical and mental wellbeing. Walking improves self-perception and self-esteem, mood and sleep quality and reduces stress, anxiety and fatigue. Physically active people have up to a 30% reduced risk of becoming depressed and staying active helps those who are depressed recover.

Walking most days of the week is a great way to improve or maintain your overall health.

You carry your own body weight when you walk. This is known as weight-bearing exercise.

Some other benefits of walking include:

  • increased cardiovascular and pulmonary (heart and lung) fitness
  • reduced risk of heart disease and stroke
  • improved management of conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, joint and muscular pain or stiffness, and diabetes
  • stronger bones and improved balance
  • increased muscle strength and endurance
  • reduced body fat.

Walking with other people can turn exercise into an enjoyable social occasion. So after your walk, why not stay and enjoy a social cup of tea or coffee with the group. Or, if walking is not really your thing, just pop in for a cuppa or coffee instead.

Suitable for all women from the local area.

9.30am walk with a 10:30am morning tea provided at Hillside Community Centre
