This is a 4-week program starting on 9 May running every Thursday from 6pm.

Dive into the wonderful world of clay and discover the joy of creating your own unique pieces in our new hand-building pottery program. 

Over 4 weeks you will learn a variety of building techniques including the pinch pot, slab building and coil techniques to craft your own bowl, platter and mug before ending the program by decorating your creations ready for firing. 

At the end of the program, you’ll have a collection of handcrafted pottery pieces to take home and proudly display, each creation a reflection of your artistic flair. 

Course outline: 

  • Session One: Pinch Pot Technique, Making a Bowl: In our first session, you’ll discover the art of pinch pottery, using your hands to create a beautiful bowl. 
  • Session Two: Slab Building Technique, Making a Platter: In session two, you’ll explore the world of slab building, crafting an elegant platter. Learn to roll out clay slabs and shape them into your vision, adding textures and patterns for a personalized touch. 
  • Session Three: Coil Technique, Making a Mug: In the third session, you’ll master the coil technique to craft larger pieces and such as a stunning vase. 
  • Session Four: Underglaze Decoration and Glazing: In our concluding session, you’ll delve into the art of underglaze decoration, where you’ll have the opportunity to paint and add exquisite finishing touches to your pottery creations. Additionally, you’ll master glazing techniques that not only enhance durability but also bring an elegant and functional dimension to your pieces. 

Don’t worry if you’ve never touched clay before – this pottery class is designed for beginners. Our experienced instructor will guide you every step of the way, ensuring that you feel confident and supported throughout the process. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your skills will develop as you explore different hand-building techniques and experiment with various shapes and forms. 

This program is suitable for 16 years and over.
