This is a 4-week program starting on 14 March running every Thursday from 6pm.

Dive into the wonderful world of clay and discover the joy of creating your own unique pieces in our new hand-building pottery program.

Over 4 weeks you will learn a variety of building techniques including the pinch pot, slab building and coil techniques to craft your own bowl, platter and mug. You’ll end the program by decorating your creations ready for firing.

Upon completion of the program, you’ll have a collection of handcrafted pottery pieces to take home and proudly display, each creation a reflection of your artistic flair.

Don’t worry if you’ve never touched clay before – this pottery class is designed for beginners. Our experienced instructor will guide you every step of the way, ensuring that you feel confident and supported throughout the process. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your skills will develop as you explore different hand-building techniques and experiment with various shapes and forms.

Course outline:

  • Session One: Slab Building Technique, Making a Platter: In our first session you’ll explore the world of slab building, crafting an elegant platter. Learn to roll out clay slabs and shape them into your vision, adding textures and patterns for a personalised touch.
  • Session Two: Pinch Pot Technique, Making a Mug: In session two, you’ll discover the art of pinch pottery, using your hands to create a beautiful mug.
  • Session Three: Coil Technique, Making a Bowl: In the third session, you’ll master the coil technique to craft larger pieces such as a stunning bowl or vase.
  • Session Four: Underglaze Decoration and Glazing: In our concluding session, you’ll delve into the art of underglaze decoration, where you’ll have the opportunity to paint and add exquisite finishing touches to your pottery creations. Additionally, you’ll master glazing techniques that not only enhance durability but also bring an elegant and functional dimension to your pieces

At the end of session four, we’ll collect and take your hand-built ceramic pieces to fire so you can then collect them after 2 weeks.
