Hospitality Pathways Courses – Free Barista, RSA & Food Safety – TERM 3 2023

If you’re looking to work in the hospitality industry you can boost your employability by completing a range of certificates. Melton City Council is offering FREE* hospitality package certificates to support securing your job in the industry where currently there is a high demand for staff.

A Jobs Victoria Employment Services representative will be available after the training to provide employment related support and link participants with employers and jobs in the area.

You can get certificates for various skills including barista & coffee making, safe food handling, responsible service of alcohol and more! You can enrol in one of the courses or register your interest for all of them to give you a thorough knowledge of hospitality setting and qualify you to work in cafes, catering industry and any other food premises where qualified and skilled people are required to conduct business.

These qualifications include:

  • Barista & basic Café Skills –  non-accredited
  • SITHFAB021 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol (accredited)
  • SITXFSA005 Use Hygienic Practices for Food Safety (accredited)

Completing all training will give you skills in:

  • Operating a commercial espresso machine and coffee making
  • Safe and responsible service of alcohol
  • Workplace health and safety and safe food practices
  • Customer service and customer relations
  • Tailoring your resume to apply for hospitality jobs
  • Workplace communication and employer expectations
  • Time management and personal presentation
  • Problem solving and taking instructions.

*Bookings are essential as spaces are limited. When you enrol in any of the courses, a booking fee of $50 is payable to secure your place. This $50 booking fee will be refunded after the completion of your course to the credit card used at the time of booking.

SITXFSA005 – USE HYGIENICE PRACTICES FOR FOOD SAFETY – ACCREDITED

In this course you will learn how to safely handle, prepare and store food to avoid contamination and food-borne illnesses.

Upon successful completion of the course you will:

  • Receive a statement of attainment for SITXFSA005 Use hygienic practices for food safety.
  • Understand safe and hygienic food practices
  • Understand Work Health and Safety procedures in kitchens

It is a requirement that you complete pre-course registration paperwork prior to attending your scheduled course date.

SITHFAB021 – PROVIDE RESPONSIBLE SERVICE OF ALCOHOL (RSA) – ACCREDITED

RSA course is the required course for Victorian (VIC) hospitality workers serving alcohol in a hospitality venue. Australian law requires all staff serving alcohol to complete this accredited unit.

Learn about: the liquor industry, the benefits of responsible service, alcohol facts, how to identify intoxication, serving strategies, how to refuse service, laws concerning underage drinking, packaged liquor laws and function practices.

Successful completion of this one-day accredited course will result in a nationally recognised SITHFAB002 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol Statement of Attainment and allows you to work in licensed venues.

There is no eligibility to attend this course. A person under the age of 18 can complete an approved RSA training course but must wait until they turn 18 to use it.

BARISTA MASTERCLASS – NON ACCREDITED

If you like to have a taster of what it’s like to be a barista or practice your coffee making skills this is the perfect course to attend. This one-day non-accredited Barista training is a practical, hands on course where you use a commercial espresso machine to make a range of coffees. The course is designed for people looking to work in the vibrant café scene or continue further training in hospitality.

In this course you will:

  • Operate a commercial espresso machine
  • Learn about the origins of coffee
  • Make a range of coffees
  • Improve your job ready skills
  • Increase your confidence

Upon successful completion of the course you will have:

  • An understanding of what makes a good barista
  • Improved skills and confidence to look for work
  • A Statement of Participation
